100 Ways to Say "No" to Narcissistic or Toxic Family (when you're anxious or frozen!)

I would copy these and put them on the NOTE app in your phone... there are times when it is too hard to know what to say in the moment but if you have 1-2 lines you memorize or can look at in the moment, it can be helpful for when your mind draws a blank and your anxiety kicks in.

All we want to do is buy yourself enough time to calm down, think straight & figure out what you want to do.

Usually you will go into some sort of FREEZE and the way to work with that is to recognize that you just need time to zone out, breathe or excuse yourself to let your body calm. You can always say "give me a minute" or ask a follow up question to keep them talking while you breathe and gather your thoughts.

  1. I'm not willing to discuss this.

  85. Even so, my answer is still no.

  86. I understand, and my decision hasn't changed.

  87. You don't have to like my boundary for me to keep it.

  88. I know you're unhappy with my choice.

  89. I'm okay with you disagreeing.

  90. I trust myself to make this decision.

A reminder for scapegoats: Boundaries aren't about controlling other people. They're about deciding what you will and won't participate in.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING PRACTITIONER & TRAUMA INFORMED COACH

I ended up in this work because I needed it.

In 2009 my son was born pre-mature & between his health issues and my own, I was not ok. It led to years of panic attacks & no idea how to deal with the trauma.

Once I began healing from that, I found that all my childhood coping mechanisms started bubbling up... and that was where the real healing began.

This work is personal & I know what it's like to struggle with anxiety, constantly feeling like you have to over-function & never feeling like you are safe enough to rest.
